Lawsonia inermis Description: Lawsonia Inermis, also known as Henna, the henna tree, the mignonette tree, and the Egyptian privet, is a flowering plant and the sole species of the Lawsonia genus. It is the source of the dye henna used to dye skin, hair, and fingernails. Lawsonia Inermis contains a red-orange dye ingredient called lawsone, it is often used for skin, hair, nails, leather, silk and wool coloring. The leaves, one of the earliest used natural hair dye, can be applied to hair cosmetics for coloring. Added to shampoo, it also can be used for hair care. In Arabia, Lawsonia Inermis has been used for thousands for of years for painting, tattoos, hair, and nails. FDA has approved the usage of Lawsonia Inermis as a Hair Coloring agent. In addition, Lawsonia Inermis is able to improve trichomadesis and improve hair as a natural plant product. Flowers can be extracted essential oils or extractum to be used in cosmetics.
