Coltsfoot flower Description: Coltsfoot refers to the dried flower of Tussilago farfara L., which is a plant in the groundsel tribe in the daisy family Asteraceae. It is mainly produced in Gansu, Shaanxi, Shanxi, Henan. It is mainly used for coughs, asthma, hemoptysis. The chemical constituents are flavonoids, terpenoids, phenols, alkaloids and volatile oils, in which tussilagone, rutin and quercetin are the symbol ingredients of Tussilago farfara. In addition, polysaccharides of Tussilago farfara also has a significant effect. As natural herb, Coltsfoot can be found in western Pharmacopoeia records used to relieve respiratory. It is also included in the American Herbal Pharmacopoeia.
